Wild deer workshops

Take a minute to to check out my wild Fallow and Roe deer workshops on Shropshire’s Wenlock Edge

Fallow deer.

Venue: The Wenlock Edge, Shropshire, UK.

These workshops will be based from Eaton Manor

“The Madeley family have been farming at Eaton since 1934. The farm was originally a dairy farm and then over the years expanded to include arable, beef cattle and laying hens. The hens and the cattle were fed almost entirely on what grew on the farm and the manure was then put back on the land to improve the soil structure and provide the energy needed to grow the next crop of feed. The fourth generation of the family now manages the farm which has been simplified to a rotation of arable crops and grass embracing the regenerative agricultural scheme which will improve the soil structure and biodiversity and reduce erosion. Since the wildlife corridors around the brooks and edges of the fields have been added we have seen an increase in the variety of wildlife on our farm”.  Nicola.

This workshop gives you the opportunity to spend the day in Shropshire, photographing Britain’s wild deer. It’s no secret that deer can be difficult to photograph, their ability to smell, see and hear you coming and the speed at which they can disappear is incredible.

This workshop is run on a 1-1 basis as this ensures that I can offer you the maximum guidance and support and it also reduces the stress on any deer as we approach by foot.

For morning sessions we will meet 30 minutes before sunrise and the session will last approximately 4 hours. For afternoon sessions we will meet 4 hours before sunset.

There is also the option of a full day session.

Equipment Required

Your favourite camera

A focal length of 400mm or above would be ideal for this location.

Tripod is not required as you’ll be at ground level, however a beanbag can be useful.

Warm, waterproof clothing, including wellies.

Spare cards and batteries.

Fitness: The walk requires a level of fitness that will include short steep climbs and on occasion wet, muddy slippery paths. Like all wildlife, the deer don’t stay in one place and depending on the day they could be in a different habitat, so there could be some flat-level walking involved. You may also be required to crawl through the undergrowth to increase your chances of success.. However, the idea is that we are stationary and the deer come to us!

These workshops run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1st of August to the 14th of November 2024

Prices

4 hour sessions are £90

The guided full day workshop (including refreshments, a simple lunch and image post - editing) is £200.

Payment is secure with PayPal. However, if you are uncomfortable with this, please use the contact form.

You will be sent an information pack at least two weeks prior to your booking.
